I apparently forgot to mention the first batch, but I've added lists for a good chunk of the Virginia DC suburbs over the past couple of months and just added a large part of Maryland this weekend. Data sources are sketchy, so the timeframe is limited and I'm pretty sure there are omissions, but even so, it's better than what was there before!

A few corrections for the Maryland suburbs:
Wheaton Plaza opened formally in 1960, but Giant opened in 1956 which was the year when ground was broke. Although it was by itself then, it was incorporated into the plaza and remained there until Westfield redid the mall years later. There also was a Grand Union in the plaza on an outparcel; in fact Grand Union's shopping center subsidiary managed the plaza in its early days. Giant is still there but in a freestanding outparcel location.
9801 Rhode Island is Hollywood Plaza. According to a history of the area, it opened in 1967. The super there was briefly an Acme, probably before it was an A&P. Acme had many very short-lived locations in the DC area--the one at Half & L SW lasted maybe a year or two. Shop-Rite had a very short life in the DC area and probably opened the store in Hollywood as it was much larger than a typical Acme or A&P--26K or 28K sf. It had a long life as an REI from the 1980s. It recently became the flagship for the local MOM's Organic chain, which had a long run at the other end of the plaza in a tiny location.
Grand Union had 2 different locations at Prince George's Plaza (3500 East-West Highway). The first one was demolished for Woodward & Lothrop's department store in 1966. It was replaced by a 45K sf store which I visited years and years ago--enormous for its time. Grand Union's shopping center arm was the developer for Prince George's Plaza which opened in 1958.
