Charlottesville may be the only place where a Kroger and a (Kroger-owned) Harris Teeter currently operate in the same shopping center. And that Kroger store site has a long history, having housed a Colonial (later Big Star) until 1979. A new Safeway was constructed on the site in 1982; it was sold to Farm Fresh in 1993, to Hannaford in 1995, and to Kroger a month or so later.
