[Groceteria]

This is kind of an unusual 1967 Marina variant. Per Eric Voytko, the shingled roof, which also seems to be gabled or at least sloping, was a recent addition related to a shopping center remodel. I'm torn between thinking it's a little odd-looking or wondering if it wasn't actually a fairly tasteful remodel (if one had to be done at all). It does seem to have been enlarged somewhat, to the left and right, but I'm not 100% sure even about that.

Has anyone seen this store in person? I'm strangely curious about its interior now.

Addendum: it all makes more sense from overhead.

I live near this Safeway and shop there from time to time. The entire shopping center just completed an entire major exterior remodel (2025), and the Safeway was part of that. It has been remodeled at least a couple of times since 1967, and still has the partial marina look. This store is in the very wealthy McLean area outside DC and competes with a very successful Giant up the road. Wegmans also has a store in McLean so lots of competition.
