After the bankruptcy, those stores as Delchamps, as Jitney Jungle, soldiered on under Winn-Dixie's ownership, even if they were just a rump state of their former chain. Yes, I'm sure that most (if not all?) of those stores have closed, but they left on a legacy, a legacy that is ending only now with Aldi winding down the chain.

Not correct. Jitney Jungle Stores of America (the original company) filed for bankruptcy. Winn Dixie cherry picked the stores they wanted because there was a LOT of overlap. No headquarters, no DCs. They also closed a large section of Delchamps BEFORE they finally pulled the plug (mostly what was left in Louisiana and other peripheral markets). Essentially, they got some stores in MS and AL, plus a couple of old Delchamps (one of which is still WD in Metairie) in LA.

For reference - Delchamps had 118 stores when they were purchased by JJSA. JJSA had 105. Winn Dixie bought only 106.

So to summarize - Winn Dixie bought stores from JJSA. They did not purchase the company. WD has not been in a financial position to take on that much debt since the 70's. Delchamps and JJ are end of the line.

I think I will go ahead and add Delchamps/Jitney Jungle after all because I found this - proof that Delchamps was briefly closed for a reset.

They pretty much all closed when any other operator took over. Brookshire Grocery Company bought Opelousas, Eunice and Abbeville, LA prior to this. All three were closed for a brief remodeling as per BGC standards. They were the last three west of the Mississippi to operate as Delchamps before JJSA folded and sold off the rest piecemeal to WD (of the three, only one still operates as a supermarket, in Opelousas).

That being said, despite closing for a reset the Delchamps name remained on the signage anyway without a banner, but I guess everything else was changed inside.

Thorofare also had at least one location in Kentucky. It was on Dixie Highway in Erlanger in Northern Kentucky across the river from Cincinnati. I know because I personally shopped there.

Vons Companies Inc operated The Pantry (Los Angeles area), Expo (warehouse format), Tianguis (hispanic format), William Bros (Santa Barbara area upscale grocer similar to Gelsons or Jensens), and Pavilions Place (the smaller version of Pavilions) during its heydey when Bill Davilla was the CEO.
