I went to the Sports Basement sporting goods store a couple of days ago in the Presidio in San Francisco...and noticed lots of food-department labeling (i.e. Milk, Dairy) and a layout that unmistakeably used to be a grocery tsore!

Since it's on land that used to be an army base, I'm guessing that it might have been the PX.

I know of a Sports Basement in the San Francisco suburb of Walnut Creek, California. I despise Sports Basement in that they destroy supermarket decor in favor of an ugly basement-like decor.
The Walnut Creek store was originally an Alpha Beta. It became Lucky around 1988. Then it converted to Albertsons in 1999. Around 2004, the Albertsons was closed by Albertsons, LLC. Sports Basement got rid of everything. The floor was converted to ugly bare concrete and the walls were torn open to expose the studs. Then they added a second floor and turned the building into what looked like a giant hoarder house with junk everywhere. It is just a huge garage sale of sports junk.
