I know this was posted before, but fun to share my local paper today called this a "Palm Springs" Safeway opening in 1955, locals would know this is the old Safeway in Rancho Mirage located at 71550 111, Rancho Mirage, I always thought this was a handsome store with the attractive rock wall on both sides of the entrance that remain today, I don't know what year this store closed (when Rimrock opened??)

I don't know what year it closed. The store in Palm Desert was quite a bit closer though, I think. It probably had more of an impact on the store in question closing.
Does anyone know what years Palm Desert and Palm Springs (Rimrock) opened? Based on architecture I would assume Palm Desert opened in early or mid seventies and Rimrock in late seventies or early eighties.
