There was also another location, one that I remember in Los Angeles. It was on La Brea and Rodeo Road in a little shopping center. It was around the time of they used to give out Blue Chip trading stamps when you shopped. I was a really no frills store with great prices. The one thing I remember from this store was the raisin bran cereal. The box was full to the top and it tasted great with loads of raisins. They had other good items but that one stuck in my memory. I like Jewel T, wish they had stuck around longer.[

I remember that store, as I recall, it didn't last very long. I also vaguely remember seeing a commercial urging people not to shop at Jewel T, they mentioned several reasons, one I remember was the fact you bagged your own groceries. I'm not sure who made the commercial, but I'm pretty sure it was UFCW, the union that represented many of the grocery stores in Southern California. I also believe the reason for the boycott was the fact Jewel T was non-union, and they seem to have a problem with non-union stores...

This might have been from 1984 which was also the year that UFCW had labor strikes against Safeway and Thriftimart. Jewel decided to exit SoCal and sold their assets (including the remaining merchandise) to an up-and-coming chain at the time called "99 Cents Only" (which was how the 99 Cents Only chain started selling dollar-store groceries),but didn't transfer any of those assets to Savon Drugs (which they acquired in 1984). And Thriftimart was sold to Smart & Final.
