Original Jack in the Box sites

Noticed today an OLD Jack in the Box site in Covina CA. On Azusa Ave @ Cypress. It is currently Alberto's Mexican restaurant.

It has the OLD enormous top to the building, with the huge box in the sky that used to be the name/logo.

I then noticed a newer JITB across the street.

Made me wonder how many other old/original sites are still out there.

I recall another...on Whittier Boulevard in La Habra CA. It is currently a doughnut shop.

Others?!

The one in South San Clemente was built in 1965, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about their architecture to know if it's original.

Will try to do so!

Amazes me that they are still standing...as they are so dated!

Some locations tried to conceal the enormous tops by building the top out...and adding shingles.

They had moved away from these buildings...when JACK was literally blown up.

Funny how he returned as a "person" years later!

Even though both have been remodedled several times, the two stores in Montebello both have the original top intigrated into a newer design. Many stores are like this. I know the Garfield Ave location is at least 40 plus years old as my dad worked there when he was a teenager, and he is now 63.

Many of these still exist remodeled. Just look for a high roofline.

The JITB in Covina moved in the late 90's when they built the new store across the street. It was then converted to Alberto's

I'm 90% sure this is an old JITB from Southgate Michigan at the corner of Trenton Rd. and Dix Hwy. JITB exited the Michigan market YEARS ago, so this is one of two restaurants I know of with this architecture. The other on is on Allen Rd. and Goddard Rd. in Taylor.

Others can verify this, but I'm pretty sure this is the high-roof classic JITB style:

yes there's a couple of the old jack in the box sites in virginia well in richmond, there's two on the southside, the first one's near the old memco store on midlothian turnpike there's another one on west broad street about 2 miles from wollo lawn shoping center, & the third one's now a sheetz gas station on hugonaut road.

The Huguenot Road Jack-In-The-Box was torn down years ago. Sheetz is a new build. The store was actually located between the present Blockbuster and KFC. The building on Midlothian is still there, and I think the one on West Broad near Malvern is still there as well.

The Jack in the Box on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and Veteran in West LA is an original. My dad used to take me there when they still had the clown that you talked into. When they "blew up the clown" I remember seeing their drive-through clown sitting in the middle of the old median between Little and Big Santa Monica. I was probably 8 or 9 years old and figured that's where the clown landed when they blew it up :)

Another one is in Granada Hills at the corner of Balboa and San Fernando Mission.

My recollection is that these locations originally had no indoor dining area, they were walkup with picnic tables like the original mission style Taco Bells. The building was a cube (or perhaps a parallelepiped) so anything outside the original footprint is an add-on.

Correct. I recall all the original JITBs were without seating.

There's a 1971 Jack in the Box (I found grand opening ads in the paper showing the grand opening in January 1971) at the corner of Bellevue Way and Main in Bellevue WA which is still operating as a Jack in the Box. It looks like by that time they toned down the roofline, but the style is still similar.

There's a few of these along Colorado's front range still. Some of these were converted into Good Times Burgers (Loveland and Fort Collins, specifically.)

Jack in the Box exited the market years ago, but just re-entered Denver.

I thought I'd look at the Wikipedia page on JITB after that weird commercial during the Super Bowl.

Apparently in the 80's after getting rid of the "clown", the company changed some of its stores to "Monterey Jack's". I don't remember that here in CA. It didn't work out well and they changed them back by 1986. That's all I can find about it.
