A long-form piece on the Safeway's three years (1965-1968) of attempting to operate a store in North Omaha - with a lot of wider historical context about the neighborhood's Black heritage and how redevelopment of the site has been a challenge for decades.

Safeway's old Omaha division closed down entirely in 1982, which was several years before the KKR buyout (and less than a decade and a half since this particular location had closed) -

I do wonder, were the other Nebraska Safeways that still operate to this day always part of Denver division, or are they leftovers from the Omaha era?

What is left of Safeway in NE is in Alliance, Scottsbluff, Sidney, Chadron, and Ogalalla. I think they have always been Denver as they are so much closer to Denver.

I think North Platte was the cutoff.

It appears the final Safeway there was at 106 East William Ave.
