The short-lived downtown Safeway store (2009-2019) at S. Second Street and E. San Fernando Street in San Jose, Calif. is in the news:

Customers apparently were charged for parking at this short-lived downtown San Jose Safeway store.
This store, which opened in 2009, closed in 2019. See: https://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/new ... -date.html
Perhaps Safeway, Inc. had a ten-year lease?
One wonders if it replaced a different Safeway store when it opened in 2009. Maybe someone can help interpret the San Jose store list (up to 1979) to figure out the migration of Safeway stores away from downtown San Jose.
