Apparently, at one point in time Rite Aid started a chain of grocery stores under the name of Super Rite. Rite Aid spun off Super Rite and they would go out of business.

Apparently "Super Rite" was never a chain of grocery stores rather, a food distribution company. Rite Aid didn't start the company either. From what I've heard, when Pantry Pride went out of business, Rite Aid acquired one of their food distributors, changed the name of it to "Super Rite" then spun it off years later.

Was this chain ever folded into Richfood (later SuperValu and UNFI)? I recall there were some exchanges with Shoppers of Washington, D.C. as well.

Ok, so I actually did some in-depth research with the help of Newspapers.com, alongside some other news articles. Apparently, Pantry Pride was never even involved, Super Rite was an independent business that Rite Aid acquired due to the founder having relations with one of the relatives of the company.

I put all of my finding, as well as the history of the company here;

Richfood acquired Super Rite in 1995
