The architecture looks correct for a gable-era Safeway, I'd say your assumption is correct.

Found proof that this was a Safeway back in 1959! (The rock faced walls on the front exterior were the other hint)

The shopping center and area look so modern on Google Street View I would have never guessed it was 1950s-era.
