Safeway - SW 10th & Jefferson (Original, 1962-2003)

Hi,

Is there any proof that the original Safeway on SW 10th & Jefferson in Portland, OR, at address 1025 SW Jefferson St (which opened in August 1962 and was replaced in late 2003), had originally been built as a "Marina" prototype (with the then-omnipresent "Marina" arched roof design) and then got converted over into the 1970s "brown" format later on? In the images below, I [think I can] still see where the "Marina" arch roof would be.

These pictures were taken in 2003 by flickr user "thrift store cowboy". He erroneously cited this location was on NW 10th & Clay, so I corrected him to say that the correct location is SW 10th & Jefferson.

If I have the right spot, this Terraserver image from 2000 sure makes it look like one:

Dave,

Looking at that, it makes me want to clarify this:

When Safeway had rebuilt the facade on this store sometime in the 1970s, it jumps out at me that they tried to hide the arch as best as possible.

That's what it looks like to me as well. They usually can't (or don't bother to) hide it when viewed from way above, though...
