The former Lucky Stores headquarters building in Dublin, Calif. has been razed. I believe that this location was the Lucky headquarters until the American Stores merger circa 1988. A Lucky headquarters employee once told me that the building had few windows because of concerns about damage and/or security during times of labor strife. As I recall, the building's main exterior feature was its long stretches of unbroken brown brick (or brick veneer) walls. On March 31, 2007, the building was a pile of rubble. I can post a photo of the rubble pile if there is interest. Safeway's current headquarters is just a couple of miles away along I-580 in Pleasanton.

Also, I recently drove past the former Lucky Northern California Division distribution center in San Leandro at the soutwestern quadrant of the Nimitiz Freeway (I-880)/Marina Blvd. interchange. Until a few months ago, I believe, it was still used by Albertson's. Now it is vacant. I believe that its sister Lucky facility in southern California was in Buena Park.

Lucky's So. Cal. operation was headquartered in Buena Park, along with a distribution center. Lucky also had a distribution center in Irvine. The dairy processing portion of Buena Park was sold to Dean Foods of California in the run-up to the ABS merger (who still supplies ABS stores with milk.) I can't speak to the rest of the facility, which was off of Knott and Orangethorpe in Buena Park, although I think some logistics company has leased the property.

Irvine and Albertsons' pre merger facility in Brea now supply the chain.

LUCKY was also served by the Alpha Beta turned LUCKY DC on Harbor Boulevard in La Habra. It then became Albertsons, and now is CVS. Comically, the Alpha Beta oval simply has changed each time with the name. DISTRIBUTION CENTER under the oval has had the letters painted here & there, but is the same lettering as when it was Alpha Beta.
