In the mid 1920s my dad went to work at Skaags/Safeway in San Francisco. In a short time he worked his way up to night manager. In 1934 he opened his own groceteria at 494 14th St in San Francisco. According to your database it was previously a Safeway. I guess an empty one, because my dad ran the DeLuxe Groceteria at that site from 1934 to 1951. He was an independent grocer.
