Real Muzak!

Post by parkave231 »

Hey gang,

This doesn't quite fit in anywhere, but...

I can't remember where I found this link, but it's a site where you can download a recording of the background muzak from S.S. Kresge's, circa 1964:

http://www.oddiooverplay.com/ears/kresge.html

This stuff actually ain't bad...for muzak or real music. The saddest muzak I ever heard was when I was shopping in a retro Ingles and heard "Squeeze Box" by The Who being piped in. :?

Anyways, just a tidbit of non-grocery retail history I thought I'd pass along. I hope it makes you smile as much as it did me!

You want "sad muzak??" Here in Romania we hear 80's US pop tunes in the open air former communist markets, filled with old, tired women trying to sell their produce. The other day I heard Blondie's "Call Me" from American Gigolo there ....You always say, "what's wrong with this picture??"

When I was in high school band, we played a march called "Zacatecas" (?). We thought that it was the cheesiest thing we'd ever heard.

Damned if I didn't hear the same song on the Muzak in JC Penney...
