Brainerd, MN supermarket history

Post by Andrew T. »

Another day, another CSV to share: Brainerd, MN chain grocery/supermarket locations, 1927-59.

This is a small one, but Fargo is one of my favourite movies, so I had to do this.

And, some notes...

* The story behind the Jewel Tea Co. store in Brainerd is undoubtedly the same as that of the Grand Union store in Lansing. In the 1927 directory, it carries a "(tea)" disclaimer.
* In the 1920s and 1930s, there operated several "co-operative mercantile" stores similar to the one in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
* Washington Street NE was A Street in 1954 and earlier. (The map makes this obvious.)

It goes without question that there's a lot of frozen meat in Brainerd.
Sorry...

Oh look, a Super Valu franchise carrying the same name as Jerry Lundegaard's Oldsmobile dealership! LOL.

You also managed to dig up an intact late-1960s National with original doors. Congrats!
