Texas (probably Dallas-Ft. Worth) - Safeway - 1962 Movie

Post by Jason B. »

The SMU Jones film collection at Southern Methodist University has posted black and white, silent moving pictures of a Safeway store from circa 1962, probably in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OltO_ezwHdI

The film lasts 47 seconds. It begins with an exterior shot of the store. Signs on the exterior say "OPEN SUNDAYS" and "WE GIVE GOLD BOND STAMPS." An interior shot looks down on several aisles. A sign says, "BRANDS SALE." A female checkstand worker speaks to the camera. A large display of cigarette boxes appears to be behind her. There is a good shot of the cash register. A security officer or police officer customer walks around the store. A handmade sign says, "WATERMELON COLD." A big device at the checkstand that says "AMERICAN EXPRESS" is in the foreground. It possibly is a large checkstand scale.
