Naugles Mexican Restaurants

History of Naugles chain:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naugles

I disagree with the line about the BUN TACO originating @ Naugles. It was at Del Taco first.

In this following commercial, Avery Schreiber (Senior Naugles) is the same guy that did the CHEETOS commercials and was on MATCH GAME often!

Commercial with Del Taco acquiring Naugles...and integrating the sites with the same ad:

I can't find any pictures online of their sites that became Del Taco. They are/were unique. Will have to see one to remember the difference!

Here are some Naugles locations that I can think of on the top of my head:

3369 Mission Ave. Oceanside, CA 92054
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=oceanside ... 47.28,,0,5
This location became an Albertos for nearly ten years before becoming a Delbertos(?)

1996 Florida Ave Hemet CA 92544
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=hemet+ca& ... 24,,0,1.89
Was an Albertos for a few years, currently a Santana's.

2910 Florida Ave Hemet CA
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=hemet+ca& ... 01.32,,0,5
currently a mom and pop "Taco Shop". this seems to be a common design, I've seen it all over Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Thanks!

Oceanside=don't think so
Hemet/1996=originally Del Taco. Big indication is the large circle on the right side of the front
Hemet/2910=probably so

I pulled up the Jack-in-the-Box in Diamond Bar @ 20965 Golden Springs. It had been Naugles, yet, since Del Taco was already across the street, it became Jack. I can't seem to copy the URL. thanks!

Those I thought were Del Taco designed stores. The location on Wilcox in Montebello looks like that but it was to my knowledge always a Del Taco. I remember a Naugles in Rosemead (torn down about 10 years ago) and in Alhambra (currently a Starbucks on Atlantic). They had a slightly different design.

Here is the Alhambra Store.

Here are two views of the very first Naugles (Location #1) located at 4407 Brockton Ave. (at 14th St.) in downtown Riverside, CA:

You are right about the Hemet locations :) (I mixed up this location with the current Del Taco down the street that looks like the Del Taco posted above in Riverside) but the Oceanside location was for sure a Naugles. This location was right down the street from where my parents and I lived while I was a kid. I don't know if it was originally a Naugles or not, but it was one from at least the end of 1985 through 1988.

There were a few of these in Northern Nevada until the mid 90s. There were two that I believe to have been built by Naugles and two that were previously something else (Zantiagos or similar) then became Naugles. Currently only one is still open as Del Taco and I think it was a Naugles build, approximately 5800 South Virginia. The other Naugles build was in Carson City.

Also there is possibly another Naugles build in Reno on approximately 1400 South Virginia currently a Thai or Indian place. This closed by the late 80s.

Could this be a possible former Naugles?

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=hemet+ca& ... 1,,0,11.56

I got it mixed up with the former Del Taco down the street. This building is roughly the same size and design as the one in Riverside (the Drive-thru area is a bit more inclosed in the Hemet location) and doesn't have the large round sign anywhere on the building. This Del Taco has just a small area in the front by the doors for the counter with the majority of the dining room along the left side of the building and the kitchen on the right.

Possibly. Little difficult to see.

Pull the Diamond Bar address listed above. This is a great shot. I can't seem to get the URL to appear/copy...not sure what I am missing!

I had always remembered the Naugles looking like this site. Possibly other variations, as you stated with Oceanside.

thanks!

The two in Hemet (not the one with the round sign) and the one in Diamond Bar/Walnut are nearly identical when you measure them with Google Earth. The one in Oceanside is a more norrow, while the overhang sticks out from the building more. This shopping center (Cottonwood Plaza I think) was buit around 1984-1985. Maybe this was a late design?

I am sure the sites evolved in their time. I believe the Diamond Bar type was the main style before the acquisition.

Having a small ordering area near the front door and a dining room along one side -- usually on the left side, with a rear entrance/exit door -- of the building was a Naugles design trademark.

Here's another former Naugles in Riverside, this one located on Magnolia Ave. (near the Galleria at Tyler). It was built in the early 1980s and followed the designs above:

I guess I always was geared towards the exterior...yet, the interior indeed is the key!

Others with that inside would be:

17292 Main Street, Hesperia
602 E Redlands Blvd, Redlands
1010 E Washington, Colton
