Morgan & Lindsay was a Southern chain of five and dimes. They had 112 stores when they were acquired by G.C. Murphy in 1959. I assume theat by Southern that was south of Richmond, as G.C. Murphy already had a presence here in 1959.

That's all I know and can find out right now. Does anyone know anything else? Where headquartered, when started, geographic range, etc.? Thanks.

I will have to do a little file searching, but I believe the chain was originally based in Texas. Some of their larger stores had lunch counters, but most were somewhat smaller neighborhood stores. They were fixtures in my original hometown of Jackson, MS for years after the G.C. Murphy acquisition.

Any help you can give would be appreciated. I should have mentioned that they did indeed have lunch counters, as the purpose of my quest is to help document a piece of restaurant china marked for the chain.
