Sontag Drug Stores

I recently came across a check from 1945 written out to "Sontag Drug Stores" located at 300 N. Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, CA, but when doing a search I only come up with 1 location on Wilshire and Cloverdale. Is there any history to this chain? Was it merged with another company or just go out of business?
