Lucky's Alhambra Closes

Another supermarket has closed on Valley Blvd. This Lucky was previously a Max Foods, Grocery Warehouse and Fazio's market.

This store was always pretty busy, so I'm sure it was the changing demographics that caused the change.

How many Luckys is SVU still running?

Clearly Lucky is their version of Super Saver or Max Foods: convert problem stores to this format to let them die. Just like American Stores and Albertsons did for many years with these secondary discount banners. Sad.

As far as I know, they have one in Van Nuys and one in South Gate.

Well, as of today, the Lucky store in San Ysidro is still open with no indication of closing at all...

Cali-Mart (Asian American grocer) just had a Grand Opening in the former Max/Lucky. The entire store renovated, but some fixtures such as shelves remain from the Max/Lucky days. This ends 32 consecutive years of Albertsons/Supervalu operation (since the 1978 takeover of Fazio) of that particular space in Alhambra. The only Albertsons left in Alhambra is the huge Albertsons-Savon on Fremont/Commonwealth.

They compete directly against the 99 Ranch owned 168 Market (aka 99-168) at the old Crawford's Corner (former Market Basket/Vons) across the street.
