Super Saver Bellflower, California

Post by steps »

Hey Guys! I happen to be looking for fireowrks the other day and came across this store. I forgot the cross street but it's on Firestone Blvd (I think the cross street starts with an "N" but I'm not sure) Anyways what caught me eye was the Lucky style street sign. At first I thought it may have been Lucky but upon closer inspection it was a Super Saver Foods. I dont know if it closed as a Super Saver but it it had the label scar. There also looks to be another label scar but that could just be eye tricks. Anyone have any info on this location? Was it a Lucky at one point? Thanks!

There was a former Lucky, #439 at 11011 E. Firestone Blvd in Norwalk. This might be the store in question. Judging from the store number, it would have opened in the mid 60's. The only Lucky Store in Bellflower was a Gemco on Lakewood Blvd.

Looks like the same interior package as the downtown San Jose Lucky store. It was a 1990s remodel that I've only seen in a couple of stores. As I remember, the signage was bilingual (English/Spanish).

It does look like San Jose. The former Norwalk store definately has the late 80's/early 90's floor covering, and the floor plan, from what I can see, matches the 60's "Discount Center" prototype.

This is not it.

That address would be on the corner of Firestone and Studebaker and its not there today.

I think the street is not Firestone. I work not far from Firestone and this building isnt on it from Paramount to the I-5.

The church in the background is intriguing to find out where it is.

It's Firestone. The street WAS Manchester but down the way it turns into Firestone. If I'm able to ill go back around the area to take more pictures. I was gonna take a picture of the street sign but forgot! (Doh!)

Lucky #467 - 3211 Firestone Blvd. South Gate. It would have opened late 1966 or early 1967.

Great! Thanks for the info. Does anyone know when it turned into a Super Saver? Was it Lucky conversion or a Albertsons conversion? The street sign is in blue but has the Lucky signature shape. I'm leaning more toward Lucky convering this location since albertsons really didn't do MAJOR remodels after the merger.

Super Savers were popping up after the merger. The Lucky's in East LA became a Super Saver after the marriage. It closed many years ago and is now El Super.

And the Albertsons near my house still uses the Lucky Pylon with that shape sign.
