Neal Peirce, a columnist for the Washington Post Writers Group, has published a preview of his Sunday, April 18 column. It is titled "Supermarkets as Neighborhood Centers: Vision For a More Walkable America." See:

The column is based on a Planning magazine article by Mark Hinshaw and Brian Vanneman. One interesting fact cited: "A market needs a surrounding population of 8,000 to 10,000 people, or about 4,000 houses, to succeed."
