Former Acme(s) Elmira, NY and maybe Troy, Pa

Post by drpep »

First pic is a former Acme in Southport (Elmira) NY. It sat vacant after Acme pulled out of NY. Another business briefly located there then Valu Home Center Moved in helping revitalize the plaza ( not pictured)

Next picture is the former Bi-Lo (Penn Traffic) in Troy, Pa. They moved down the street several years ago. I'm going out on a limb and saying this may have been an Acme. I know someone will let me know if I'm wrong.

Looks almost identical to this Acme location, including the canopy over the front door on the left.

I'm thinking Acme on that Troy store as well because there's a similar looking Bi-Lo in Hallstead, Pa. (on the NY/Pa border along I-81) which was once an Acme in its former life. Bi-Lo also had a store in Carbondale, Pa. which opened as an Acme or Super Saver in the early-mid '70's. That store is now a Weis. The point being that Bi-Lo probably bought some of the Acme locations as they began retreating from various areas in Pa. which would suggest that it was indeed an Acme and the pictures David provided pretty much clinches it for me.
