Re: Brea CA
Mother's Market (organic/natural supermarket chain based in Orange County) will open their newest store at Brea Plaza either later this March or early summer. This marks the first return of a supermarket to the plaza since the departure of the '70's era Albertsons at this location.

Nogales is very busy on the weekends. They won't close it. This location first opened in the Big Lots center before taking over Builder's Emporium. There are 2 Garvey locations of TS - the small one is adjacent to True Value at Garfield, the other is slightly larger at Nicholson. Both locations are ...

Re: CA Big A/Drug Emporium/Drug Barn
The Covina Drug Emporium store was slated to be a Walgreens in late 2009/early 2010, but then sometime mid-year, the Walgreens banner disappeared and the store is still vacant as of after Christmas 2010.

Re: Thrifty (and Other Rite-Aid Legacy Brands) Ice Cream
The reason that the clerk's paycheck says Thrifty on it is that all former Thrifty Payless stores that are now Rite Aid are internally known (as a phantom subsidiary) as Thrifty-Payless Inc . CA liquor licenses for various Rite Aids (the ex-Thrifty/Payless) are all registered to "Thrifty-Payles...

Old AB 1 is somewhere near Western University of Health Sciences (former eastern block of the 1950's era Pomona Mall) in the historic downtown section of Pomona. In the ancient days of grocery retailing in Southern California, the shops were simply small corner stores of existing multi-use buildings...

Cali-Mart (Asian American grocer) just had a Grand Opening in the former Max/Lucky. The entire store renovated, but some fixtures such as shelves remain from the Max/Lucky days. This ends 32 consecutive years of Albertsons/Supervalu operation (since the 1978 takeover of Fazio) of that particular sp...

That part of Citrus had a different numbering system in the address back in the Smith's days because it was most likely unincorporated county territory before the City of Covina annexed that area. It became Lucky in 1984 after Lucky bought out Smith's Food King.

Montebello CA at one point in 2006 had 3 Albertsons-owned stores at the same intersection (Via Campo/Wilcox): Max Foods , which is now a remodeled Albertsons. In the 1970's, the first Albertsons store opened in the adjacent Office Depot. Albertsons-Savon , a former 1960's era Lucky closed in favor o...
