Re: Penn Fruit outside Pennsylvania
Hi, The former Glass Brothers Shop Rite outside of the Bergen Mall in Paramus New Jersey I believe has been demolished or is about to be. The store in River Edge is no longer a Shop Rite and has been converted to other uses. It never had the barrel roof that Penn Fruit was famous for. The Penn Frui...

Re: Richway and/or Value City
I am not too familiar with the Deep South. But I know Houston and Philadelphia well. The big-box chain Richway did operate mainly in Atlanta. After a long run, these stores were sold to Target in 1988. They were remodeled into standard Targets. But around 1995, they already started to relocate. Tar...

Re: Acme and Philadelphia area shopping centers
Thanks for the King of Prussia info; Bed Bath & Beyond makes the most sense as the Food Fair, although looking at it from bird's eye view it looks like it was expanded on the right and the back over the years. So if Michael's was the theater, what would the Marshall's have been? Is that the W.T...

Re: Acme and Philadelphia area shopping centers
I've been confused for a while with the Valley Forge Shopping Center in King of Prussia; I know there were at certain points an A&P, a Food Fair (which coexisted), a W.T. Grant, and the Eric theater. I've been told so many different things as to what used to be what. Currently there's the Bed B...

Re: Acme and Philadelphia area shopping centers
Yes it was and A Frame Acme and was in the southern most area of the original mall facing route 202 ( Thrift Drug was near by) I believe it is now parking lot. The same thing happened to Acme in the Exton Mall( The original store I believe is where Boscov Is.) and in the Media Mall the original sto...

Re: Penn Fruit outside Pennsylvania
Here is another mystery: The former Bradlees in this center still has the Jefferson Ward look. That implies it definitely started as a Two Guys. But I hear it was a J.M. Fields. I am not sure if the J.M. Fields stores became Jefferson Ward later or just Bradlees. Most became Kmart for that matter. ...

Re: Centennial A&Ps "reconstituted" as Super Fresh
From "Family Pride", a history book on the Genuardi family, I found out they wanted what is now the Bed Bath & Beyond building. Not sure what it used to be, but it was one of Bed Bath & Beyond's first modern stores. It was recently closed for a few months for interior remodeling. ...

Re: Acme logo, current
These Acmes, built around 1993, have the same design. I am thinking they all started with the current logo: 1. Holmes, PA (MacDade Mall) 2. West Chester PA (West Goshen Shopping Center) 3. Collegeville, PA 4. Maryland (I forget the town) Also, it seems Albertsons did a lot to purge the Acme chain o...
