Re: Plaid Stamps in California
It seems like Blue Chip had a near-monopoly in trading stamps in Cal, only a few chains offered S&H, and Gold Bond and Top Value were non existant there.

Re: Smith's/PriceRite/Food4Less Las Vegas
The Kingman and Havasu stores are still Smith's, everything else in AZ became Fry's (or closed if it was near an existing Fry's that was in better shape than the Smith's)

Aw, that's too bad! The Levitz store in Fresno had a massive neon sign dating from the 60's. Somewhere I have a picture of it lit up at night. Levitz had one of their big rotating neon signs in West Phoenix also - visible from a long distance. The Levitz family is still involved in the furniture bu...

After the Kroger/Fred Meyer merger, Kroger then acquired Baker's in Omaha, NE from Fleming, a deal which included a couple of F4L's in the area. Kroger has since expanded the F4L banner to Chicago, a market which Kroger exited roughly 1971 by selling most locations to Dominick's, which was part of F...

Re: Dillons, 4801 E Central, Wichita, KS
http://www.99w.com/evilsam/gallery/groceteria/20070527dillonswichitaks.jpg Found this one interesting. For those not in the know, Dillons is a Kroger-owned chain and by far the dominant player in the Wichita market. In fact, it's basically about 18 Dillons, a few Wal-Mart Supercenters, some Aldi st...

Another Lawson's in Riverview, MI, was located at 12705 Pennsylvania Road, also opening around 1980. It also later became a Dairy Mart, and then circa 2000 became a Circle K.
