Re: Lucky-Castro Valley, Calif.-3443 Castro Valley Blvd.

Quite a nice little store... Lucky opened this store in 1969 and how the exterior looks in the drawing (below link) it seems like there have been very minor modifications. There were windows along the front and side of the store which were covered over (probably during the mid 1990's). http://www.fl...

Re: Last Mayfair to become a Gelson's

It hasnt happened yet so... Can someone take some photos of the store to make sure that the last Mayfair can be remembered in memory along with photographs. I wrote Gelsons a letter describing the importance the Mayfair name has to people and that the change of a name can have serious issues (Lucky-...

Re: Pleasant Hill, Calif.-Dying 1960s Mall

The interior portion of the mall was demolished during the final days of 2007:( One of the last original businesses (aside from Century) was Freidmans Appliance Store. The family owned store began decades ago with their first store in Oakland. To my knowledge the Pleasant Hill store is the last one ...

Re: Safeway International in San Francisco?

There was also a Bon Appetit store located at 611 San Ramon Valley Blvd. in Danville,CA. The store opened in 1972 as a Safeway replacing an older gable store at 480 San Ramon Valley Blvd. The Bon Appetit closed in the late 1980's and the building became sub-divided for a Walgreens and an Ace Hardwar...

Fantastic Fair

One of the most comical slogan used by a discount store was from Fantastic Fair Discount Department Store and Supermarket was their "Coast to Coast" line. I guess two stores in Nevada and one store in South Portland, Maine made the chain literally on the East Coast and West Coast!

Safeway?

I think that if this was store was fictional and simply on a soundstage the details would be far less specific. I feel that there has to be an explanation as to why this store clearly has a Safeway interior and exterior S symbol. There is no way that someone wouldve put so much work into designing a...

Supermarket in "The Mist"

The new movie titled The Mist based on Steven King's novel of the same name appears to be the main setting as families take refuge in the store. The previews show at least ten different angles of the store with various things occuring. I think that the interior of the store is that of a Safeway sinc...

Possible conversion

I think the store located at 1800 East St. in Concord,CA became a superstore in January 1978. Prior to becoming a superstore it was a marina store, no demolition ever took place that I am aware of.

Merced

There is a former Howard Johnsons restaurant in Merced,CA. It is currently a Carrows and is located at 720 Motel Ave. The Carrows sign should be near the highway directing you to exit.
