Brown's Chicken

Looks like Brown's recently filed for Chapter 11. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-biz-browns-dec30,0,5679829.story I know business started declining in the 90s but they seemed to rebound more recently. I know there was a lot of locations that closed down in the 90s. Anyone know of any of ...

Re: Former IHOP locations

In Chicago we still have plenty of the homes still around. Based on the locations listed on that 1967 ad some remain while others are long gone. 5929 N Lincoln Still alive and well (I occasionally eat at this location since it's close to my job and they remodeled it a couple of years ago while keepi...

Re: Long John Silver's freestanding stores

In the Chicago area there is still a freestanding Long John's in I think Lincolnwood on Toughy Ave. I went in here once a few years ago. It is straight up old school with the old bell still being rung and everything. Looked like it hadn't been updated since it was built. A similar one to this one ex...

Franksville Hot Dogs?

Anyone remember this mostly long gone chain of hot dogs places around the Chicago area? I passed an old prototype of Franksville on the South Side yesterday. They had very distinct looking buildings and were around Chicago in the mid to late 1960s. There is a location on Harlem still in operation th...

Re: Wag's Restaurants (1976-1988)

I seem to recall Wag's lasting a little longer than 1988. I moved to Chicago in 1989 and For first year or two after we moved, I remembered seeing some Wag's locations. Did Shoney's convert them rather slowly? Also, as many Walgreen's as I have been in all over the city (including a two floor one do...

Re: Stouffer's Restaurants

Does anyone have pictures of the old Stouffer's restaurants or know of a book where I can find them. I have always been curious to see what these look like.

Re: Old Chicago A&P Location.

It certainly is interesting. I shop at that Burlington Coat factory a lot and up until recently the shopping center still retained its late 60s look. Too bad the facade is being redone into blech modern. Should have taken pictures a long time ago.

Yes, it was. It still sits there empty and lonely. And there is another abandoned Jewel on Belmont and Pulaski although that one was much bigger.

Well, at least this one isn't abandoned like the other one you posted a few weeks ago. Although, strangely it still looks kind of sad.

This one's easy. It was a long running Pick-n-Pay. Opened around 1960/61 and was still operating in the late 80s. This design (with the jagged roof) was used for several freestanding stores built around the same time: 79th & Hough (taken over by an independent after the '66 Hough riots) was one...

Thanks

My hats go off to Toby and Stan and Rich for ending the mystery. I knew it just wasn't a Pick N Pay and I had a feeling it probably belonged to the Fisher Foods/Fazio's empire. Even though the store closed in 1980 which happened to be the year I made my entrance into the world in Cleveland, my gut j...

I don't know much about them and only remembered reading this post a few months ago. I was looking at a blog I recently discivered and found this and remember the question on here. I will link you the blog and perhaps you may get the answers you are looking for from the blog's writer, Dave. He seems...
