Re: Sambo's Restaurant Locations in California

The Mission Viejo Sambo's was located in a small center near the intersection of Puerta Real and La Alameda. If you look at the Google Maps overhead view, it was located in the northern third of the top most red roofed building that's nestled between Puerta Real and the NB lanes of I-5. This was a m...

Re: LA Cafeterias

I took my 28 year old niece to Clifton's last month. I knew she'd love the funky atmosphere as well as the knowledge that she was the 4th generation of our family to eat there. She enjoyed the food and was fascinated with her first trip to Downtown. The first time I was there was in 1961 when I was ...

Re: Carl's Jr. defunct additional chains

Sometime in the late seventies, Karcher built a new restaurant for his So. Mission Viejo store at 26241 Avery Pkwy. It's now a Del Taco. I was impressed with their product, so much so that I wrote Karcher a letter telling him just that. I got a personal reply back from him with a handful of free foo...

It was my aged Grandfather's favorite place to eat, and he treated all of us to supper there a few times back in the seventies. All I remember is gray roast beef and lots of potatoes served...

Re: Unusual shaped Vons sign, 9119 Reseda Blvd, Northridge

That is the same style sign that the Capistrano Beach Vons (built ~1962) used to have. I recognize that from childhood.

That Vons is now a Stat's.

The Stater Bros in Fontana located at Valley Blvd and Sierra Ave is a classic sixties store on the outside, including the signage on the front of the store.

Re: Market Basket locations in 1959 and 1963

MB built a store off Ave. Vaquero in the Shorecliffs section of San Clemente back about 1963. It was the only store in South Orange County where my Dad could buy fresh scrapple. Or scrapple in any form for that matter. It's now a DMV office, and because of that, the satellite stores in that small ce...
