ALPHA BETA advertising campaigns
For years, ALPHA BETA's advertising campaign was TELL A FRIE ND. The spokesman was Alan Hamel. He is married to Suzanne Somers. They were in the news this week...as their Malibu CA beachfront home was destroyed by fire. Before the demise of ALPHA BETA...it was ALPHA BETA FAST ...ALPHA BETA FRESH ......

Re: New York: Food Basket
Does anyone else know of any Food Baskets?
Are these ANY relation to the FOOD BASKETS that were in Southern California (primarily San Diego I believe)? They were acquired by LUCKY...(see LUCKY details on main page of this site).

Stephanie Edwards
i hope they get her back as the Lucky spokeswoman! Completely agree! KTLA TV in Los Angeles had had her hosting the Rose Parade for about the last 30yrs. Last year...she was "moved" to the street/sidelines...while a younger female anchor sat in the booth. It POURED rain on Miss Edwards. S...

Re: Lucky Stores-So. Cal. Distribution Center-Buena Park
So does this mean (in the Lucky-American Stores era) that the La Habra location was mostly focused on the drugstore end of the business, and Buena Park on foods? That I am not sure. What I do believe occurred during the Albertsons-era is that since the original Albertsons DC was down the street (whi...

LOMA LINDA, CA--Alpha Beta & Stater Brothers
When the Loma Linda CA Alpha Beta closed in the center @ Barton Road & Mountain View...the Stater Brothers across the street essentially demolished the former Alpha Beta and moved to this site. The former Stater Brothers became a Clark's Nutrional store. Clark's maintained the Staters' signage.....

BULLOCKS--Southern California
When the BULLOCKS at the West Covina Fashion Plaza (which became The Plaza at West Covina and now Westfield Shoppingtown West Covina) became MACY*S...they pulled the BULLOCKS name down and slapped MACY*S up. To this day, you can STILL see BULLOCKS on the building. Now that MACY*S moved to the Robins...

I remember THRIFTIMART had stores in City of Industry CA at the corner of Gale and Hacienda. It became LUCKY...and is now a 99 Cent Only Store. The THRIFTIMART in West Covina CA was off Sunset. I believe it is now MAX FOODS. Jeff, since I believe you are in the area...swing by this current 99 Cent ...

ZODYS/Circuit City connection
I believe I read one time that Circuit City actually began by leasing space within ZODYS stores.

Zodys/Montebello CA
When the ZODYS in Montebello CA (Garfield/Wilcox exit off 60) closed, the Albertsons that was next door, moved into ZODYS...as MAX FOODS (owned by Albertsons). There is now an Office Depot in the former Albertsons. Don't remember if something was in there between Albertsons and Office Depot. Comical...

I can't remember it being downstairs at all. Yep. When you entered the main double doors downstairs...it was immediately on the left. Or, enter through the catalog door...and walk to the right. The wallpaper books were between the candy counter and the catalog area. I'd sit at the wallpaper book co...

The Pantry market in Hacienda Heights opened in the late 70's and was converted to a Vons market. It has since closed and is now a 99 Ranch Market. The Hacienda Heights site was originally opened as a VONS. It was converted to The Pantry when VONS acquired The Pantry chain. I believe it was convert...

Is that the huge building on Waterman Ave that's now an abandoned swap meet? Looks like an old Gemco. Now even the fast food places have closed, all that's open now is the gas station. There was a Kmart on Waterman and 9th, maybe that's what you're thinking of. Yes, I believe that is what is being ...

Fedco was a non-profit, owned by its members. The name was an acronym for Federal Employees Distribution Company. They had a nominal lifetime membership fee, which was something along the lines of $10. I was a member, joining when I was a college student which was an eligible group at the time. The...

I just came across this board and thought I would add my 2 cents. I worked for Target stores in 87 and 88. I trained at store T188 on orange show rd in San Bernardino. It was a former white front and fedmart store. Where the pic and save or big lots is now use to be the grocery part of those two st...
