Waremart had something similar in their Boise stores in the late 80s, not sure if Winco (what Waremart became) still uses them.

The carts I did not like were the small folding kind that were made to fit partly into a checkstand and had a gate at the front that could be opened to move items across the scanner. Many Albertsons stores used them. In another thread, the now-demolished Vista and Overland Albertsons in Boise is dis...

"I believe it was KBCI-TV in Boise that remodeled an old Buttrey store into studios and offices."

I already posted this on the first page of this thread.

"So Albertson's is the only "big" chain left in Boise?"

Not if you count Kroger-owned Fred Meyer, and Wal-Mart Supercenters.
Winco (which started life as Waremart and also operated Cub Foods stores) has always been headquartered in Boise.

Weiser and Payette are two towns I never have visited, so I have no knowledge of the towns. As for Mountain Home, The Safeway received a remodel at some point in the mid-80s, and they added the pharmacy at that time. I also remember it did have mechanical cash registers until that remodel. I want to...

Thinking back to Cole and Ustick (which I had confused with Ustick and Five Mile) I remember at the intersection, on the same side of Cole Road as Smith's (but across Ustick) there was a Waremart grocery store we would shop at occasionally. It was much nicer than the Overland Waremart. I am thinking...

I remember the former Best on Fairview (which was Great Western before Best took over). That makes me think that the Grocery Outlet moved into an old Eagle home center. This particular Eagle looked EXACTLY like a Pay-N-Pak home center on the inside and outside in everything but the name, and I do no...

Thanks for telling me about the Broadway store. That store received a remodel in the mid-80s, and I remember it was an older store. The Parkcenter store wasn't built yet, I often also shopped at the old Albertsons at Boise Ave. and Apple street, which closed when the new Parkcenter store opened clos...

And to answer the first question,
I know that the Safeway near the Lloyd Center in Portland was demolished and rebuilt on the same site.

I didn't realize they rebuilt the Vista & Overland Albertsons. That was a neat old store. On my last visit to Boise in 2001, I did drive down Broadway Avenue, and noticed that the Albertsons on Broadway was renamed "Broadway Market" but still had the Albertsons logo on the sign. I did ...

There was one of these open in Vancouver, Washington for a short time in a former Pietro's Pizza. Not only was the chicken fantastic, but they also had turkey on the menu that was quite good, and I liked the corn muffins they had. If only they marketed it better or had a different name they might st...

Albertsons pharmacies

I seem to remember that for a number of years Albertsons would not put a pharmacy in their strip mall stores if there was a drug store located in the same complex. This seemed to apply with large chains, notably PayLess, as well as some smaller chains over the years such as Skaggs Drug Stores, and s...

10,000 square feet? Wow that is small for a Fred Meyer store.
So was it a grocery-only store or was there any variety like a Fred Meyer Marketplace?

This might be a different chain, but I remember a few King's stores in Idaho during the 1980s. These stores seemed more like a Woolworth or Newberry's type of store than anything else.

Fred Meyer, 6th & Alder, Portland

I remember for many years, Fred Meyer advertisements would often list locations at the bottom of the page where items were not available. It seemed that on every page it would say, "Not available at 6th & Alder." Was the store at 6th & Alder a much smaller store than usual or was t...
