Just as an odd historical note - I think D'Allesandro's was the first grocer in Boise with scanners - truly ahead of their time as grocers go - Boise just wasn't ready for their style of retail in 1980. I non-fondly remember the Fred Meyer stores without unified checkout - one change introduced simu...

I may need to spend some time with Oregonian microfilm - I'm digging to childhood, too, but I'm virtually certain that the short leg of the L was not original. The "internal facade" of the Meier & Frank store changed substantially with the expansion in the 90s, but I recall them adding...

The two Seattle-area locations that come to my mind are the White Center location (not so white, not so centered), at 17th and Roxbury, near what is now the Salvadorean Bakery and Schucks Auto Supply. There is still a (very) faint outline of the Prairie Market logotype on the white rectangular sign ...

The Infamous Eve's

Fred Meyer, decades pre-Kroger, operated Eve's Buffets. Most were part of Fred Meyer stores, but there were definitely a few freestanding locations. I believe Eve was Fred's mother.
