Re: New location list: Reno/Sparks

You didn't find any Fox Markets or Fox's Food Fair?

Food Fair Stores bought a chain in Southern California called Fox Markets in the 1960's.

There were 50 stores in California and 25 in Nevada.

Re: Beckley, WV chain grocery/supermarket locations

Yeah, I believe that is correct...............

The panhandle would be the logical area.

There was talk of the managers trying to buy the remaining stores.

The size of the stores were large for their time (when built).

Re: Beckley, WV chain grocery/supermarket locations

Intersting!

I am almost certain there were Food Fairs (and eventually Pantry Prides in W.Virginia).

Also, I believe there might have been some short lived discount department stores there as well.

Re: Wyandotte, Lincoln Park and other Downriver burbs chain history

Actually Food Fair was very aggressive and creative with "others" using the name Food Fair around the country. They were not always successful (and not always right away) but these agreements were interesting. And the stories about this were difficult to confirm and were often weirdly secr...

Re: Sears/Safeway rumor from 2006

This guy would destroy Albertsons/Safeway/et al in such a way that would make Ron Perlman (Food Fair/Pantry Pride/Revlon) look like Mother Teresa (albeit at a slower pace and way more profitable for him).

Yep, and they designed that Ralphs to honor the original architecture of the Alpha Beta.

I managed that Ralphs for a while and also the Ralphs Fresh Fare on Palm Canyon and Sunrise (about a mile down the road).

Re: What are some of the reasons why supermarket history is so interesting?

Wow, Andrew, as always.............well said and not surprisingly, prescient. Retail grocery is the mirror and the window of the culture it serves. The necessity of it (everyone has to eat) guarantees a full display of society at large and its evolution. I imagine the same things when viewing a repu...

Those were the art deco days in Food Fair architecture.

Lots of customers were calling them "Fabulous Food Fair"!
