Saw 2 movies recently, one was "Oh God" in which John Denver is a Manager at a Luckys. Great interior shots of a 70's supermarket decor. The other was called "Play it as ut Lays" with Tuesday Weld, at some point they meet at a Thriftimart, under the big red "T". Both we...

The Super Saver in Indio was a Zodys when the building first opened in 1979. Zody closed that store down in the early 80's several years before it closed them all in 1986. I'm sure many different businesses have come and gone before the Super Saver.

That was infact a Mairfair Market. An ad from the LA Times dated May 25, 1970 lists that store as a 24 hour store along with 19 other 24 hour stores as well as 21 regular hour stores.
"Now shopping at Mayfair is 3 times more fun and profitable than ever!
Triple Blue Chip Stamps!"

Tiangus opened in 1986 i think in Montebello, then Boy's Market followed with the Viva store. The concept didn't work back then, but it would now. I also believed the Tiangus stores were converted Vons stores. I don't think they were built from scratch.

This was a Shopper's Market til about 1966 i think, and then Lucky's until Albertsons bought them and changed the name. It hasn't changed too much over the years except for the Savon's side which was another pharmacy before. Shame they closed it, i was sad to see Lucky's go.

The old Robert Hall Village store was above, and a Ralphs Supermarket was below. The Robert Hall store closed in 1977 and opened up as a Zodys in 1978. Not sure when the Ralphs store moved (probably when Market Basket closed it's Pasadena store which is where it is now on Lake).

It was called the Brooklyn Food Market back in the late '50's. By 1971 it was a Mens Turkish Bath.
Info comes from the LA Times dated Feb. 14, 1957 and Nov. 10, 1971.

Market Basket and Blue Chip stamps. I remember the one in El Sereno, now a Food 4 Less and Burbank a Toys R Us. The El Sereno store is in bad shape but if your ever up in the attic, you can still see the Market Basket logo.

I can date this store back to 1948. I don't know if it opened as a Ralphs prior to that. It hasn't been remodeled since the LA riots of 1992 when the store was looted.

The Garden Grove Vons closed at the end of the year of 2004. It opened in 1985 as a Pavillions, having been a Zodys store. This was the first Zodys store to open back in 1960.
I have a picture i took in December of this store right before it closed, but i just don't know how to put it with my reply.
