According to Sobeys' website this store is still there: http://www.sobeys.com/search-store/stor ... _store=yes

I wonder if the store still has its parcel pickup?

Here in Ottawa, Billings Bridge Plaza had 2 grocery stores in the mall: a Loblaws and a Steinberg. Loblaws bought all Steinberg stores in Ottawa in the early-90s. Loblaws then converted the Steinberg's to their Your Independent Grocer (YIG) banner, before closing the store in the late 1990s deciding...

I'm going to Toronto in a couple of weeks, so I'll be on the lookout for other great looking A&P/Dominion/Food Basics stores. Out of the 60 or so around the GTA, I've probably only ever been to 1/3 of them. I also want to "check-out" the fairly new Whole Foods while I'm there. It's the...

I'm pretty sure that location has always been Dominion. Not to get too off topic, but the I do remember Miracle Mart banner was actually used around Ottawa by Steinberg's. However, in Ottawa these stores were general merchandise, low-end department stores, smaller than K-Mart, but bigger than Woolwo...

Thanks. That clarifies it all beautifully. So I assume IGA Canada operated in the same co-op/franchise manner as its US cousin, rather than as an actual one-owner chain. Any specific Tornoto-area ex-Safeway locations I could scout on my next visit? Yeah the Loeb family of Ottawa controlled much of ...

Thanks.

By the way. There's another former Miracle Mart down the road on Yonge at Sheppard. It also has a really cool roof design. It's now a Dominion Save-a-Centre. Several ex-Miracle stores featured arched roofs.

Re: Toronto General

A&P acquired Dominion in the 1980s, but what happened to Steinberg's? Per Wikipedia, their stores were former Grand Union stores purchased by the Steinbergs in 1959. Another post here suggested that the Steinberg family of Montreal also owned Miracle Mart stores and that these may have been sol...

Re: 5915 Yonge, North York ON

http://groceteria.com/forboard/5915yonge.jpg I almost spit out my soda when I saw this amazing specimen. Based on the fact that it's now a Food Basics, I'd guess it was formerly a Dominion store, since it sure doesn't look like any A&P I've ever seen. However, I'm not all that familiar with the...
