Re: Payless Drug signage
Not sure if it's much help, but digging through my files shows the curved P you refer to in use on a 1977 ad, shown below.

Re: Fred Meyer gas stations signage
The Bellevue/Overlake Fred Meyer also has a Les Schwab in the front parking lot. Given the fact that this particular store is one of the former White Front/ValuMart locations, it is possible that the TBA store could have even been there before Fred Meyer got there (the former White Front "key-o...

Re: Serving [insert town] since [insert year]?
Quite a few of the Safeways here have those. I believe the local one in Redmond says 1954, but the current location has existed only since 1975 or so. In one lifestyle remodel of an (expanded) Marina store, they replaced the old "It is our pleasure to serve you" sign at the front of the st...

Re: Fred Meyer gas stations signage
OK, so the ones in New Mexico (it looks like there are about 10 or so around the Santa Fe/Espanola area) are unrelated. here is the logo for that particular Quik Stop chain, which is affiliated with a Conoco distributor in the area.

35th Anniversary of the first barcode scanner transaction
Over at Gizmodo today, they have a post which points out that it was 35 years ago today when the first commercial transaction using a barcode scanner was made at the Marsh Supermarket in Troy Ohio. The post includes an interesting YouTube video in which the project coordinator shares some memories o...

Re: Fred Meyer gas stations signage
Just out of curiosity, do you have a picture somewhere of the "old" Quik Stop logo? I recall that there were a couple of places known as Quik Stop when I lived in New Mexico (Los Alamos and White Rock) sbout 15 years ago, but they seemed to be independent local places rather than part of a...

Re: Fred Meyer gas stations signage
If you look at the Kroger corporate website, you'll see that particular logo is used fairly consistently across the various convenience store formats they own. Although Fred Meyers with gas stations are rare around here in the Seattle metro area (I only know of one,) I suspect the different signage ...

Re: Safeway Store Brands
OK, after putting this off for way too long, I finally managed to have my camera with me when I was in the neighborhood of the Safeway bakery plant in Bellevue, and grabbed a picture of the sign: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/Vexorg/Sledgehammer/mrswrights.jpg I apologize for the fence in t...

Re: *Photo*Questions About Former A&P Location In Roswell?
I'm not familiar with the area, but using HistoricAerials.com (something I was pointed to from this board, which I make extensive use of for historical research up in my neck of the woods) we can answer your questions: http://www.historicaerials.com/featuredPOIImage.aspx?poi=5975 -There was nothing ...

Re: Any NON-FOOD Fred Meyer stores still operating?
I think there might have been a thread on the Southwest board about Grand Central at one point, since that seems to be where most of their stores operated. I know there was one in Santa Fe NM (also in a shopping center with an Albertsons, incidentally) that closed in the mid Eighties and eventually ...

Re: Safeway Super S Stores In The Northwest
Hmmm.... I've never seen evidence of any Super S stores in Bellevue, but if there was one I'd guess it would have to be either the Eastgate (Sunset Village) store or the old Overlake (now Uwajimaya) store. It can't have been the downtown Bellevue store since that one had a Bartell Drugs next door fo...

Re: All Pay'n Save's in Seattle as of 1980! From old ad!
I can account for most of the Eastside locations on the list: Redmond (Bear Creek Village shopping center, opened 1975) - Still operating as Rite Aid Bellevue (Downtown Bellvue, opened in late 1962) - Still operating as Rite Aid Factoria Mall (opened 1977) - Still operating as Rite-Aid Evergreen Vil...

Re: Anybody Want to Buy a Slightly Used Kmart? (Bellevue, WA)
While doing some unrelated newspaper research today, I stumbled onto some ads for this store which do confirm that this was in fact a Kmart Foods store when it opened (probably late 1967 or so.) When I get a chance to upload them, I'll post a couple of the things I found.

Re: Safeway Store Brands
At the Safeway bakery plant up here, there's an old "Home of Mrs. Wright's" sign at the front gate that I've been meaning to get a picture of for a while now, but I never seem to have my camera when I'm over near there. I'll have to try to get that and post it.

There are a couple of old TV commercials for the chain on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOLBWo6aP0g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC7LoBQwYnw I think I've seen mention of a couple of former locations still standing (with different tenants, obviously) in Minneapolis, but since that's well ...
