Re: Albertsons Logos Through The Years

The Albertsons "symbol" was first used in the 70's at some point, then their script in the 80's. This based on the history section of the old Albertsons website. Information on Albertsons history is hard to find. I read somewhere that Albertsons entered the Houston market in 1990, but othe...

Food Fair in Houston

Did Food Fair ever have stores in Houston (or anywhere in Texas)? I wonder because a chain has long existed there by that name. Their later stores are former Albertsons that closed in 2002. The major players in Houston, during Food Fair's heyday, would have been Kroger, Safeway, and Weingarten's. (R...

Serving [insert town] since [insert year]?

Has anyone seen signs at Safeway that read something like this: "Serving Springfield since 1996?" When did they first use these signs? I have found them hanging at older Safeways, but newer remodeled Safeways have this signage on the wall.

Re: Possible former Safeway (Katy TX)

I just looked at the old Randalls in The Woodlands (now offices) in Live Maps. It has the same arch. Now I concur the one in Katy was always a Randalls, and no sources I can find list it as anything else.

Possible former Safeway (Katy TX)

I found a former Randalls at 923 S. Mason Road in Katy, Texas . The store looks odd for a Randalls, and kind of resembles the former Safeway at 21155 Tomball Parkway in Houston, Texas which was sold to AppleTree, then Randalls. That store opened in 1983. The store in Katy looks much bigger though. P...

Safeway in Houston

Safeway exited the Houston, TX market in 1988 when their stores became AppleTree. I heard their Houston division was 18 years old at that time. Their only stores there I know were built in 1983. In 1994, AppleTree stores ironically became Randalls. Randalls became big around the same time, and ironi...

What were all these stores at one time? Acme?

I noticed all these buildings had the same textured design on Google Maps. Acme possibly? Or Penn Fruit? 5000 State Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026 Store was IGA, then Supervalu, then Great Valu, now The Fresh Grocer. In Street View I saw what looked like an old Acme street sign, now used by a club call...

Re: Pinecroft Center

This shopping center is in The Woodlands, Texas. I used to live in the area around 1996-1997, but this is a mystery when it opened (early 80's, perhaps?). Possibly it was built in the early 90's, but it looked rather old and run down even when I shopped there. The stores are (or were) Target, Linen...

Re: Oldest Operating Acme Stores

The current Acme in Newtown Square, PA opened in 1960 with a pre-A Frame design, but relocated from a store built in 1951.

Re: Acme--right smack next to Food Fair?

I'm not sure this was a Food Fair. I have my doubts, and I think Pleasant Family Shopping would have mentioned it if there were one. Joshaustin610 on Flickr would have probably discovered it too. Just my speculation.

Possible former Food Fair

The Acme in Newtown Square, PA opened in 1960. A few stores down, there looks like what was a Food Fair. Is this even possible? It appears to be subdivided into True Value and Thrift Drug/Eckerd/Rite Aid. address: 3568 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073 The store looks very similar to this:...

Are you sure the one in Chestertown opened in the year 1960, since A Frames were introduced in 1963 I thought?

Re: Super Fresh-does it still exist?

Yes - they are a part of the A&P family of stores. There are about 75 current locations in NJ, DE, MD, DC and PA, many of them former A&P stores (including the one in Newark, DE that even still LOOKS like an old A&P). Try http://www.superfreshfood.com for more info. The ones in Wynnewoo...
