Re: Kroger

Incidentally, last time I went by there, I noticed that the Kroger sign's K was missing, so that the sign said "Roger" instead of "Kroger."

I recently posted some photos of a store's interior in another thread. I was nervous about doing so (I chickened out a month earlier when I was at the same store), but finally got up the nerve to do so. Here's what I did: I went with a friend so that gave me more confidence -- in case anyone asked w...

Here are some recent photos of the Kroger grocery store located at 19001 West Road in Woodhaven, Michigan. Some of these photos were taken last month, but most were taken this afternoon. There was a Wrigley's at 3400 West Road in Trenton, MI from around 1960 till sometime in the 1970s. The 1967 city directory lists the store's manager as Pat McPhee. By ...

Any experience with historical societies?

I only became interested in local history this year, an interest that admittedly has become somewhat obsessive. I was inspired by the Charlotte spreadsheet on this site to do my own listing of addresses in my area. This has involved going to the library and looking through old city directories, phon...

For myself, I wasn't particularly interested in grocery stores, retail history, or even local history in general until this year when I began to realize how many places from my youth had gone away. And that made me appreciate even more the places that were still around. A lot of the stores (and othe...
