Okay...noticed another twist to this situation! Ha! The current Palm Desert VONS (former Safeway) is in the Palms to Pines WEST Plaza . In the Palms to Pines EAST Plaza is RITE AID, 99 CENT ONLY STORES, and STAPLES. Is it safe to assume, that 99 and/or Staples was the old Safeway, and Safeway built...

The chains had their private label...that was to be cheaper. They even went a step further...and had the even cheaper private labeled products. Ralphs had PLAIN WRAP. In Redlands CA...VONS was a part of the Redlands Mall. When a replacement VONS was built...the VONS became Sav-On...now CVS. I believe remnants of VONS could be seen when it was Sav-On.
