Re: Colorado Soupers and City Supers
Adding on to this there was another "Circle Soopers" chain acquired by City Market in the mid-1980s... what could this mean? Was naming your grocery stores "Supers" a part of Colorado culture or something? :P

Re: NEW: Springfield IL, 1925-2023
Thank you for the post. What I have seen is a Kroger on 155 N Lincoln as of 1931 (store #3037) in another directory, but there are none at that address, though there are two close by (one at a corner with Lincoln/Governor) as of 1930-1937. Any leads on that?

Re: Kroger in Lafayette LA
The original Opelousas location was on US190 at the western edge of town where 190 splits into one way Vine and Landry streets. It shared parking with a Howard Brothers store which outlived it. I'm not sure if they held the lease that was lost in 1978. The store opened in the early 1970s. I'd wager...

Re: Kroger in Lafayette LA
Kroger sold both Lafayette stores, New Iberia and Morgan City to National at the same time, 1986. National opted not to run Arnould, as the Real Superstore was under construction just up Johnston, and it would have been a wasted effort. Willow closed within a year, and Morgan City was gone just aft...

Re: An unusual and unlocatable Kroger store (Beckley, WV)
Somewhat off-topic, but in Beckley I also noticed another store along Jones Ave that opened in the 1954-1955 range per Chain Store Age. Any info on that? Can you pin that down any or pass along the article? I can't find evidence of there being a Jones Avenue in Beckley now or then. Source from the ...

Re: Kroger (and ex-Kroger) stores in southern West Virginia
What a find: Many sources state Kroger first entered the state of West Virginia in 1926, locating in the Charleston market. However it looks like they first located in Hinton, 14-15 years earlier. The Hinton Daily News reported a Kroger opening in June 1912, and a year earlier from a possible franch...

Re: Kroger Family Centers
I think I might've just stumbled upon another former Family Center location (which was later converted into a Kroger supermarket) https://www.google.com/maps/@34.7184406,-92.3476348,3a,28.7y,12.98h,94.38t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sx06y8E2Vjrva43t0RSjD3g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 Is this another former Kroger FC...

I can't confirm this but were Smith's Food King (as of 1985) and Skaggs Alpha Beta ever in the city?

Re: Kroger Family Centers
There's no need for proof. That is about 50-100 miles from Mattoon, another short term FC. It's definitely one, but badly remodeled. Looks like per the Galesburg Register-Mail on November 1, 1972, Kroger was indeed operating a Family Center in Macomb. As the FC rollout was taking place Kroger would...

Re: Kroger Family Centers
I found this newspaper ad listed several locations of old retail stores (of where to buy trainsets, what the page was originally advertising) https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/382222633/ I looked at the (which according to this website) the former TG&Y store located at 1600 W Jackson St, Maco...

Re: NEW: Hamilton/Fairfield OH, 1925-2020
The original Kroger on Central would have been the Colony store, which was replaced by the former Big Bear nearby at 3918 Monroe. Perhaps they took over the A&P to prevent competition or because they considered it as a location to replace the Big Bear and their Westgate store (this location was...

Re: Does anybody know when Kroger stopped using those cube signs?
FYI, that particular store was built in the 1990s, not 2007, and the sign was a carryover from a 1973 predecessor store on the same site. It was actually brought up in this thread some 13(!) years ago. I assume the cube signs were last used in the early 1990s. I would say late 80s as the Greenhouse...
