I don't know how long Kmart Foods lasted around these parts, though. From the old city and suburban directories for Richmond, there was only one Kmart Foods (on Midlothian Turnpike) which lasted one year (maybe two). There were two others that were coupled to Big Stars, at least one made the convers...

Raley's Cafeteria?

Did Raley's ever operate cafeterias, either in conjunction with their stores or as stand-alones? Trying to identify a piece of restaurant china:

I know that in a lot of places, a mall and an automobile dealer are two separate and distinct zoning classifications, with different parking ratios, etc. It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to put a dealership into an anchor along with existing retail, but I suppose a showroom would work.

Trans World Entertainment is supposedly in the process of rebranding all Sam Goody stores as FYE. The also own the Wherehouse brand and for whatever reason, have a few stores still operating under that name (there's one in Norfolk, VA, for example), as they apparently do with Sam Goody. I suppose it...

Rich, I don't suppose it was a truck tunnel for long. I remember going to Tyson's several times back in the '70's and always seemed to end up entering by Lum's and then going upstairs. I haven't been to Tyson's in years because I really don't have any compelling need to take the time to get there fr...

Any help you can give would be appreciated. I should have mentioned that they did indeed have lunch counters, as the purpose of my quest is to help document a piece of restaurant china marked for the chain.

Morgan & Lindsay

Morgan & Lindsay was a Southern chain of five and dimes. They had 112 stores when they were acquired by G.C. Murphy in 1959. I assume theat by Southern that was south of Richmond, as G.C. Murphy already had a presence here in 1959. That's all I know and can find out right now. Does anyone know a...

There was a McDonald's in Richmond that had a second McDonald's in its basement set up for training purposes. I don't now how large or complete it was.

Rings no bells, but could have well been a marketing term. There's always a little bit of that in ads around DC, especially for beer and wine. Without going into a whole lot of gory detail on the subject and listing all of the exceptions, beer and wine is generally only available in VIrginia stores,...

...The 7-11's in Florida represent the only 7-11's south of the Richmond-Petersburg, VA area... There are 7-Elevens on the Outer Banks of North Carolina as far south as Whalebone Junction and some more in eastern NC in places like Manteo, Grandy, Elizabeth City and Coinjock. They're probably an out...

I have a rule of thumb I use when I decide on picures to take or post to the web. If the core of the building is still original, I take the picture. That means no vacant lots or new buildings built on the site of something else. I don't concern myself with how the facade looks after a remodeling.

The Marina at 360 West is indeed gone. I was in there today and there are no Marina traces at all. In fact, I'm sure the Marina was razed and new space built on the site. Whether or not that was done by Safeway prior to their leaving Richmond, I don't know, but I'm pretty sure it came after they wer...

Having seen it in person yesterday, I'm even more convinced that it started out as a Safeway. Wish I'd had time to go inside. Isn't the tree nice and healthy-looking? I did get an opprtunity to check out a couple of early 1970's phone books for Petersburg and it was an independent, Adams Street Mar...
