History of Safeway in Portland, OR Since 1921
Hi, I would love to see a detailed history of Safeway in and around Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA from 1921 to the present. You know, I want to see a history section on Safeway in the Pacific NW area as detailed as David Gwynn's history of Safeway in San Francisco, CA. In other words -- I would lik...

Re: Fred Meyer Classic Architecture
Most of the stores used this white sheet metal with a dark brown alomst black sheet metal for the trim and entrances. Most of the stores were boxy looking. I think the Fred Meyer in Kirkland Washington still has that kind of look on the exterior. Interior of the stores used a lot of bright colors. ...

Re: Does Anyone Know Where This Freddy's is Located?
This store looks like the "Benson Plaza" Fred Meyer, which is actually in North Benson Center in Renton, WA. I am not absolutely sure, that it is. But if it is the same store, it was the first Fred Meyer in Renton. Quite possibly this could be one of their two Salem locations (as my famil...

Fred Meyer Stores After 1966
Does anyone have any clues as to the original color schemes of most all pre-1987 Fred Meyer stores built since the Southeast (at 82nd & Foster) location had been reconstructed for the first time and re-opened on November 2, 1966? I hint at gray with black accents (and red " Fred Meyer "...

Does Anyone Know Where This Freddy's is Located?
Hi,
Does anyone know where this particular Fred Meyer store is located? I hint it may be the one on SE 148th & Division in Portland. The photo was taken sometime in the late 1980s.
Thank you,
Ben

Yes I had the address wrong on the Beaverton Hillsdale Highway one. The home improvement department is still in a different building than the store. The interior of this store was on the rough side for a Fred Meyer. I'd guess it got some sort of remodel work in the late 80's or early 90's but littl...

Would you happen to have any exterior shots of the Glisan FM?storewanderer wrote:http://s196.photobucket.com/albums/aa11 ... %20Glisan/
The Marketplace on Lombard received a similar interior remodel but the exterior was not redone.

1988 Fred Meyer Grand Opening Ad
Hi, Has anyone checked the out the 1988 Fred Meyer ad which covered the grand re-openings of four of their stores? These four stores were: Raleigh Hills (opened Spring 1959) - 7700 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy, Portland, OR Rockwood (RIP, 1957-2003) - 18535 SE Stark St, Portland, OR Tigard (opened Mar...

Storewanderer, Your first picture of the Clatskanie store is correct. As this store is about 20 miles from my home, I have visited it several times over the years, most recently two months ago. However, the second photo does not look like the interior of the Clatskanie store. Is this Beaverton also...

What Marina Safeways Were Enlarged to Super Stores?
Hi, Given the observation that the Cole Center area Safeway Super Store in Cheyenne, WY had began life as a smaller Safeway in the Marina era due to the preservation of its original parking signpost (as well as the distinct Marina bulge if you look at it in aerial view), this is a question I'd like ...

Actually, the Cole store IS an old Marina. You just wouldn't know if from the current exterior. Do an overhead satellite image at maps.google.com, and you'll see the original roofline. That store has been expanded over the years. The marina ceiling is still fully exposed inside. Thank you for the i...
