Re: Eagle Quality Centers

I notice that this new store has the old Safeway logo. But I know there were a few stores that had the old logo but were built with the "lifestyle" package. Was this the case here?

Rite Aids with Pay 'n Save interiors

Currently I am on a trip to Bellingham, WA. So last night as I was driving through the downtown area, I passed a Rite Aid. Not too unusual around these parts to see a Rite Aid that had been a Pay 'n Save and/or Payless. But as I was driving by, I could see that is sported the green and blue late 198...

Re: Eagle Quality Centers

The store in Girdwood is Crow Creek Mercantile. I suspect that they are the hidden gems that were part of Carrs prior to the Safeway merger. But in the case of the Nome store, I actually found out about it by listening to a radio station online from Nome. There was a mention of Hanson's/Safeway on t...

Eagle Quality Centers

Yesterday I was looking up stuff about Nome, Alaska and saw that there is a store called, Hanson's/Safeway. But upon looking for it I discovered that Safeway actually does operate a store in Nome. But when looking at the ad online, it said "Eagle Quality Centers-A Safeway Company". I could...

Re: Defunct grocery chains you personally shopped at

Washington State:

A&P
Piggly Wiggly
Mayfair
Lucky
Larry's Markets
Prairie Market
Tradewell
Stock Market Foods
Mark It Foods
Big Bear (the Lucky stores version)
Johnny's
Olson's

Admittedly, some of them I shopped at as a kid with my parents. But I probably bought a candy bar with allowance money.

Cub Foods in Washington State

I know that in the Northwest that the owners of WinCo Foods had a franchise for Cub Foods at least in the Portland area. However, I do remember in the early 1990's seeing a sign for a Cub Foods to be built in Federal Way, Washington. That store never opened as a Cub Foods. That site eventually becam...

Re: Edmonds, WA: Former Centennial A&P?

I also believe that the former QFC in Lakewood was also a former A&P. It had a similar design.

Re: Safeway in Snohomish, WA

I am wondering if that Snohomish Safeway sign could be from a space that may have been occupied by a Olson's Food Store? I know most Olson's were bought by QFC prior to being taken over by Fred Meyer and Kroger. But could this be a case where QFC passed on a location? Olson's had a oval logo, like K...

Re: Burger Chef

As for Burger Chef, that was before my time, but how widespread were they in this area? Burger Chef only made it as far north as the Portland-Vancouver market. There's an intact "Cosmo 2" Burger Chef building near Portland State University. I've got to think it's only a matter of time bef...

Re: Plaid Pantry

I was only refering to my knowledge of Plaid Pantry in Seattle. Being that Plaid Pantry was from Portland, I would not be surprised that the Portland stores were turned into am/pm.

Re: Plaid Pantry

I believe that Plaid Pantry was going to be a major franchise of am/pm. They had some stores in the Seattle area. But none of the existing stores were ever converted to the am/pm banner. But there was one "new build" that opened during that period that opened as a am/pm. It was the first a...

Re: SeaTac Mall/Commons at Federal Way

The theatre space was originally Lamonts then Gottschalks. Gottschalks left as it was pulling out of the Seattle metro area. In other words, before the whole company went bankrupt.

Re: Old Fred Meyer Stores w/ Separate HI&GCs

There was also a Fred Meyer in Seattle that had a separate HI&GC. It was the one on Lake City Way. This store was originally a Marketime Drug outlet. While I don't know that origin of the Marketime chain by the 60's they were like the older Fred Meyer store but without food. However the Lake Cit...

Re: Fred Meyer gas stations signage

I only know of one QFC with gas. That would be the North Lynnwood QFC on Highway 99. But that QFC Fuel Stop has the regular QFC logo.

Rexall Drugs

Yesterday, I was in Downtown Gig Harbor, WA and found the first Rexall Drug store that I have seen in many years! As far as I know, Rexall lives on in Canada. But I am wondering if anyone else has seen any other unaffiliated Rexall Drug Stores here in the US?
