Acme #1558 was located at 1305 West Main Street, Norristown, PA.
There was another Acme #1755 but the only address I have is W. Germantown Pike, Norristown , PA.

Re: More central PA Acme stores?
In Harrisburg there was an Acme on Union Deposit Road in the Point Shopping Center (formerly Union Deposit Mall). When Acme moved out it Became a Fox Market. After Fox left it and some other buildings were demolished and replaced by a new Giant. Also in Harrisburg on Route 22 Jonestown Road. It clos...

Re: Summer Road Trip to Philadelphia and Suburbs
Gaudios was owned and operated by Penn Fruit. Some of their locations were former Penn Fruit stores.
The Pep Boys store on the Boulevard near Red Lion was never an A&P.

Re: Summer Road Trip to Philadelphia and Suburbs
MikeRA, I don't know what I have to do to prove to you that picture 2449 located at 6301 Roosevelt Blvd. was a Penn Fruit. As I previously said I grew up in that neighborhood and I am old enough to have shopped there when it was a supermarket. (I think it closed as a supermarket in the early 70s). T...

Re: Summer Road Trip to Philadelphia and Suburbs
2449 was definitely a Penn Fruit. I grew up in that neighborhood and shopped a few times in that store. One of its unique features was that it had entrances on the Boulevard and from the parking lot. Most of the activity was on the parking lot side. I think there were only 2 or 3 checkouts on the Bo...

Re: Summer Road Trip to Philadelphia and Suburbs
Some great pictures. I think I can help you identify some of them 2435 was never a Food Fair and I don't think it was ever a supermarket. The former Food Fair/Pantry Pride is now a very busy Shop Rite and it is located at Frankford and Knorr which I think is across the street from this building. 243...

I wish I could show a photo of this store, it was pretty impressive. In the mid-80s when the Big B had to be dismantled there might have been a picture in the Inquirer. Unfortunatley, there are no pictures in their computerized archives. Steve, it seem to me that companies like Food Fair would have ...

I remember that store. The design with the Food Fair tower was common in the late 40's and early 50's. What was unique about that store was the bowling alley in the basement. Food Fair was noted for its nepotism and it would eventually lead to its demise. The story I was told when I worked for the c...

Sorry I did not notice this earlier. It is the store at the Pennypack Circle and Roosevelt Boulevard. It opened around 1958. It was converted to Pantry Pride around 1967. It was totally rebuilt (not remodeled I mean gutted and redesigned) in the mid-1970's. They changed the name to Penn Fruit which ...

Hill's? Hill's-Korvette
Korvette's had a couple of supermarkets in the Philadelphia area that they sold to Food Fair in the 1960's. I think they only used the Korvette name. They were large stores and the one at Cederbrook Mall that Food Fair made into a Pantry Pride was the busiest and most successful store in the division.

I sent the article. It was from Philadelphia Magazine. I had remembered reading it years ago and was able to find it in the library.
