Re: Shopping Bag Food Stores In Southern California

304 E Foothill, Upland - DEMOLISHED/VALERO GAS STATION I don't live in the area anymore so I can't check, but I grew up in Cucamonga. The old Shopping Bag on Foothill in Upland was where my dad and fellow Sheriff's posse held their pancake breakfasts back in the 70s. It was later turned into a Sear...

Re: Carl's Jr. defunct additional chains

I remember a Tacos de Carlos location on Mountain Ave. in Ontario. It was just south of the Carl's Jr. location. Located on the west side of Mountain between 5th and 6th street, just north of the old Target/Fedmart/Whitefront building.

Re: Target, La Habra

That store must have opened in 86 or 87. Two of my friends opened that location, one was the garden manager and the other an area manager. I was the garden manager at LaVerne and was sent there for a week to assist with setting up the nursery. I don't talk to those guys much anymore, but if I do, I'...

Hollander Cafeteria Montclair

Does anyone know why the Hollander Cafeterias closed up? I remember the Montclair location inside the mall. The exterior entrance seemed like their bread and butter. When the mall remodeled, they closed the location and moved to an exterior pad, I think where Borders is now. I quit eating there when...

Some of the locations I remember. There was an old one in San Bernardino on the left side of the Levitz building. The Montclair location was on Central Ave. It was south of the 10 freeway on the west side in the same center and Mayfair, 1st trust bank and a UA theater. I remember going to a Covina l...

The only Wicks Lumber I've ever seen or been in was in Ontario when I was a kid. The store was between the railroad tracks that parallel Mission Blvd. and the 163 air national guard base. It was a large outdoor lumber yard with at small office in the center. As a kid it was the only lumber supply in...

I don't remember the center ever being enclosed. Back in the late sixties J.C.Penneys was a small department store. We shopped there mainly for clothes and cub scout stuff. The stores in the area were in strip malls along busy streets. I remember the store in Fontana [se corner of Foothill Blvd. and...

Yeah the Vons in Victorville on LaPaz and 7th has a big sign atop the building. I don't remember it spinning, but it looks like it could. It now houses a 99cent store banner. It was a furniture store for a short while between Vons and 99. The center also had a TG&Y when I first moved here in 91....

Sorry Dean, I haven't looked at this post for quite awhile. Yeah, the store is now the JC Penney furniture outlet. I read the post by oldtymer, I think that's who it was and the store in Montclair had the same set up. That store is now rebuilt as a Costco. The back of the cafeteria was on the main a...

The Toys R Us was original to the building as far as I can remember. It has the same design as the closed store by Inland Center Mall in San Bernardino.

One other thing I just remembered was that Jack's keys had a free standing building under the arch. Looking up Jack's keys Ontario on google shows they are still in business and have been since 55. I don't live in the area, but maybe someone could swing by there and see if they have any old pics.

The store was originally a White Front. The arch and the entrance was about where the Target entrance was. To the left when you entered was the grocery. Straight ahead and to the right was the department store. The 3 sided sign is original to White Front [just like the one in San Bernardino on Orang...

There was a location in Ontario just below the 60 freeway. The last time I was by there it was still a Sears Appliance outlet. There was also a location on Sierra in Fontana. It was on the east side of the street. I don't remember the cross street, but it was north of Kaiser Hospital. From what I ca...

I remember Sprouse Reitz in Alta Loma. It was built new on the northeast corner of Baseline and Carnelian. It was next door to Stater Bros. There were other five and dimes in the area during the 70's and 80's. We had a Ben Franklin's on the southwest corner of Baseline and Carnelian next to Sunrise ...

Who made Alpha Beta's private label of sodas? There used to be a flavor called Tapa punch and I've never found anything with the same taste. Shasta has something close, but that's the best I've come up with. Thanks for any info.
