Re: Safeway/Sav-On 3rd & Fairfax

That was a "Big" Kmart format.

Awful store in every way possible.

Re: Selah Safeway

Before Steven Burd entered the picture Safeway bragged that they opened a new store on average every other day but conveniently left out that they closed a store just as often. This went on for many years. Mr. Burd didn't do the actual leg work on each new store after that. He simply approved the R...

Re: "Grandma" at 125

I think Super Fresh initially extended into the Philadelphia area as well. It was a joint labor/management venture where the employees got some say in how the stores were run and a % of either store sales and/or profits if labor costs were kept below a certain level. In exchange for that, the union...

Re: Food Fair in Southern California

Great! Thank you for the information. Since the logo was so different, I thought the Wiki page was another store by the same name. Sounds like they became unmanageable and overly spread. Wish I had a picture of one which was in So. Calif. Yes, irresponsible expansion and nepotism, hubris, incompete...

Thanks for this new posting!

Nice to see the Setzers name.

I believe it was the first chain Food Fair bought in Florida upon entering the market.

Re: Stone Way Safeway 1951 - 1993

THE STORE SOUND SO COOL! I wish we had interior shots, especially of that Store Manager's office! I managed a store in N.W. Miami (Pantry Pride) that was originally a Frederick's Supermarket (Food Fair purchased all 25 of these stores in S. Florida). It was built in the 1950's and was 35000 square f...

Re: Food Fair in Southern California

Yep!

Fox Markets was the chain that Food Fair purchased in the mid 60's?

They had stores in S. California and Nevada.

They became Fox's Food Fair, then Food Fair and then a few became Pantry Pride (I believe there was at least ONE J.M Fields department store).

Re: Max Foods

I'm pretty sure there was a Maxx supermarket in Miami near the Dadeland Shopping Center.

If so, it later became one of the top Publix Markets in Florida (I worked there in the early 2000s).

Re: Comprehensive list of Kmart locations

Hi there, I've been working on this spreadsheet of Kmart locations for over a year now. Combining existing store lists with information found in old newspapers, retail directories both on- and offline, and local, state and federal government databases, I've been able to pull together this list of 3...

I'm pretty sure that was Food Fair's first footprint in Georgia via Setzer's stores over the border.

Nice to see a few Food Fairs and Pantry Prides! Though no one cares...........LOL :-) I care. And there were quite a lot of them in the Tampa Bay stuff I added a few weeks ago! More to come with Jacksonville and Orlando... Oh no David, I didn't mean you. You are awesome and if it wasn't for you the...
