Where in Texas (?) is this former Kroger?

As seen in this video: http://consumerist.com/2013/05/03/hobby-lobby-may-have-overreacted-to-theft-of-5-worth-of-iron-on-letters/ The store obviously is a Hobby Lobby now, and while a town may or may not have been mentioned somewhere in the video, news agencies often use generic examples of retail l...

Could these two stores actually be the same one?

I found this 1982 photo of an "unknown" 60's/70's Acme somewhere in Center City Philadelphia, where supermarkets have always been rare: http://digital.library.temple.edu/cdm/singleitem/collection/p15037coll3/id/6361 This Super Fresh opened in 1987: http://www.flickr.com/photos/meganlewis/2...

Re: Target '90s neon

Most likely this has already been asked at least once on this site, so I apologize for not searching for it. My question, though, is... do any Target stores still have garden aisles? I remember Target stores in the 90's having garden aisles in seemingly random spots, instead of the more traditional,...

Could this be a former Woolworth?

This is a Jo-Ann Fabrics in Colonia, NJ (really I believe the store sits in Avenel legal jurisdiction, but has a Colonia mailing address): http://www.city-data.com/businesses/110744703-jo-ann-fabrics-crafts-colonia-nj.html If not a former Woolworth, perhaps it was still a five and dime, such as eith...

Re: Gino's conversions

Could the Bojangles (in the parking lot of a small Safeway from 1976) in Upper Marlboro, MD have been a Gino's? I wonder because the building in Reading PA that once was a Gino's is a Bojangles now, and Upper Marlboro isn't far from Waldorf where the Gino's became an Einstein Bros Bagels. I also won...

Gino's conversions

After Roy Rogers bought Gino's in Philadelphia and Baltimore, did all the Gino's-Roy Rogers conversions become Hardee's? Or was it just some of them? I'm not 100% sure but I think the restaurant that started as Gino's in Wayne, PA eventually was a Boston Market, and it definitely was a restaurant ca...

What became of these two former Montgomery Ward stores?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Wards seen in this 1959-1960 picture only had one floor, and was built before the adjoining Northline Mall (this was in Houston) was enclosed: http://pleasantfamilyshopping.blogspot.com/2010/06/wards-strikes-up-band.html (look at the second picture from the top) Co...

Re: Albertsons in Houston

I'm not sure about Bucks County Coffee. The only Bucks County Coffee "stand" I've ever seen was one at the Philadelphia 30th Street Station. Another coffee chain I miss is Gloria Jeans, which once had a location in Philadelphia International Airport, along with Willowbrook Mall and Woodlan...

Re: Albertsons in Houston

I was surprised to see the Starbucks at the former Genuardi's (owned by Safeway) in Wayne PA still open after the store was closed temporarily, then replaced by a Giant a few months ago. Ironically, the opposite happened at the Genuardi's in Springfield PA, when the Starbucks closed about a year ago...

Re: Target '90s neon

Well, the Greatland concept was rolled out in the year 1990, so it probably coincided with that.

Re: Kmart 2000 closures

Three Kmart stores in the Houston area closed in 1994. Two of them were on FM 1960, but one was a 1974 store and one was a 1979 store. The 1973 store was later a Hobby Lobby, but they ended up moving in the early 2000s to a former Target from the early 80's which had itself moved. The 1979 store was...

Re: A&P in Louisiana outside New Orleans

Newer, national chains and aggressive, progressive regionals like Publix have made shopping in the South easier and much more cosmopolitan; however, most Southerners have a fond spot for A&P as it was the first national grocer to heavily invest in the South. Interesting. I guess A&P paved t...

Re: Walmart in-store restaurants

Wal-Mart still has very old stores like that one in Hempstead TX (west of Houston) and Vidor TX (near Beaumont). Strangely, they both were given updated 90's signs by the street, but little else. There's still a vintage Pizza Hut in front of the Hempstead store. Also in Vidor, there's a grocery stor...

Re: KMart Cafeteria and Other Restaurants

Fast Eddie's? That was the name of a sports bar somewhere in MD or VA (I forget which) that was a former A&P/Super Fresh.
