Re: First Taco Bells in Portland, OR
Would anyone care to guess how old these Portland-area Taco Bells really are? 9350 SE Stark St: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=Taco%20Bell%2C%209350%20Southeast%20Stark%20Street%2C%20Portland%2C%20OR&rlz=1R2ADRA_enUS381&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl (As you can see in the St...

Albertson's Question
I have a question about Albertson's stores: did they really ever use to have two stores located about 20 blocks away (in select cities nationwide)? I know they did have stores on SE 82nd Ave at SE Holgate Blvd (4400 SE 82nd Ave) and at SE Division St (2323 SE 82nd Ave) for a time from the mid 1970s ...

Re: 7-Eleven Stores (1980-Prior)
Another thing: New 7-Eleven stores constructed during the mid 1970s typically had red shake roofs on the west coast locations, and some others bearing wooden storefronts, with the main building being constructed of red bricks. The logo consisted of the 7-Eleven square surrounded by two red squares o...

Re: 7-Eleven Stores (1980-Prior)
Here's a Blog post I made a couple of years ago, showing contemporary newspaper photos of a 7-eleven store that opened in 1977 here in Redmond along with a Super Seven gas station. There are also modern photos of the same store and the gas station. It eventually switched to Chevron, although I beli...

Re: 7-Eleven Stores (1980-Prior)
The neon sign that I am trying to find that dates from the early '70s would read "7-ELEVEN FOOD STORE" with the words "FOOD" and "STORE" to the left and right of the 7-Eleven circle logo respectively. I'll bet this was applied on the storefront (usually centered). I'll ...

Re: Classic Malls in Portland, OR Before 1980
At Eastport Plaza, there were three known restaurants outside of the mall, all of which I believe dated to 1979-1980, the period which the mall was updated: Izzy's Pizza (3846 SE 82nd Ave.) Izzy's wasn't in the Portland market yet - 79-80 would have been their first attempts at the Izzy's concept, ...

Re: Taco Bell's Bells
As far as I know they weren't real.cal78 wrote:went by an older taco bell, and wonder were the bells real or fake????
This motif was used from the chain's 1962 inception until 1985.

Re: 7-Eleven Stores (1980-Prior)
There's a 7-Eleven store at 1475 Melrose Avenue, Chula Vista, CA that has the old trapezoidal street sign, though with a newer logo inserted. I took a picture of the sign some time back: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3417/3489277257_64201b0fa6.jpg There are scattered other 7-Elevens in CA and else...

Re: 7-Eleven Stores (1980-Prior)
I'd also like to know what each store ID# sequence represents, this relating to how many stores the chain had opened each year. Think of it like how many inventions were made per year. Year A could have yielded 5 of this; year B goes upward of 100 more; and so on. For example: 1974: Stores 1-13 1975...

7-Eleven Stores (1980-Prior)
Hi, How many of you know about 7-Eleven stores? There are still many of them nationwide, but especially in Japan. Most of the 7-11s I'd been at had the 7-11 square logo surrounded by two red squares on either side of the corporate logo, while newer ones post-1980 had the striped motif. The red squar...

Re: Were There Two Albertsons on SE 82nd Avenue in 1983?
I'll have to agree with that. The bank building is a dead giveaway, and in the street view picture, the newer building is where the old Albertsons once stood. I actually drove by there once as they were demolishing that old Albertsons and the rest of that mall. Oddly enough, the new Albertsons that...

Your Favorite Classic Exteriors Going Away?
I am one of those people who are caught off guard by the lack of stores that still have their original exteriors intact, or, those that still are around in their original locations after at least 25 years. How do you guys feel about your favorite store location losing its classic (pre-1980) touch? M...

Re: Were There Two Albertsons on SE 82nd Avenue in 1983?
If it is one of these two locations, I think it's the SE 82nd and Holgate. If you Street View 4360 Cascade Hwy and point north, the building next to the US Bank sign appears to be the same one behind the Albertson's sign. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=4...

Re: Were There Two Albertsons on SE 82nd Avenue in 1983?
That is a tough one. I wasn't in Portland in 1983, but I have visited the long-gone 82nd & Division store. I would almost say it is that store, as I remember a tall bank sign with a time/temp display in front of the store, which might be what is above the head of guy with the tan colored coat i...

Were There Two Albertsons on SE 82nd Avenue in 1983?
Here is an old photograph (credit: Chris Read) captured from a 1983 KGW-TV 8 (NBC) news story about Tri-Met: http://www.platypuscomix.net/fpo/videos/eastport83.jpg In the background is an Albertsons road sign (logotype is the 1976 one). But ... what I don't know is if this particular Albie's points ...
